In direct rebellion to the intimidating “super salons” of the 1990’s, Melanie Shelley created a salon that looked—and felt—very different. Two salons in one space: a pink, sparkly 1940’s women’s beauty shop on one side; and a dark wood, porcelain-sinked 1940’s men’s barbershop on the other. Both shops were committed to bringing back friendly, old-fashioned service, yet featuring young, modern barbers and stylists doing editorial-quality hair.
TRIM Classic Barber & Legendary Beauty, founded in the historical 12th South area, became an instant Nashville institution. TRIM was not only jam-packed with appreciative guests who spread the word, but the salon became a top recruiting draw for outstanding stylists, barbers, colorists and makeup artists from around the country.
Fast Forward to 2015: New Ownership Builds the TRIM Legacy
In early 2015, Melanie Shelley decided to take a new direction in her career and Liz Grotticelli, a Melanie protégé and accomplished stylist at TRIM, took over ownership.
“TRIM has been the realization of my dreams for nearly two decades, and I am very proud of its legacy. Liz is the perfect leader going forward. Her drive, passion, and creativity enables her to build upon my work and create her own TRIM legacy for decades to come.” – Melanie Shelley
